L'Arc~en~Ciel ray (1999) 1. Shi no hai
(4:11) |
ray was released alongside ark at the same time, and personally I'd say it's the weaker of the two. It's the more straightforward one, and mainly showcases the harder and heavier side of L'Arc~en~Ciel, though there are still some lighter songs here. Starting with the heavier side, Shi no hai is a gritty rock song full of crunchy riffs and a very rough vocal performance from Hyde. Kasou is a fan favorite, with some emotional vocals and awesome guitar instrumentals. Shinshoku -lose control- is a very dynamic song, shifting between soft and heavy passages, trick is another loud, crunchy riff filled rock song that's really repetitive and not as successful as Shi no hai, and Ibara no namida is another heavy song but with some really soft and beautiful vocals. As for everything else that's not heavy, It's the end is a fantastic mid-tempo rock piece, HONEY is another fan favorite, one of the few upbeat songs on this album and one of the catchiest melodies that the band has ever written. Sell my Soul is a pretty entertaining and relaxing piece that's sort of made to sound like the band is playing in a pub, and snow drop is an awesome upbeat piece that's very U2-ish in nature, and the album closes with the silver shining, an epic and very slow-paced ballad that's a great showcase of Hyde's vocals. And finally, there's L'heure, the worst song(if you can even call it that) that Laruku has penned in their career. It's completely useless, as it's just a mindless rhythm with a French couple talking in the background. I guess the point of it is as an intermission or something, but they could have at least made it more interesting. |
