L'Arc~en~Ciel True (1996) 1. Fare Well
(4:56) |
True is L'Arc~en~Ciel's fourth album into their career, and also their last with Sakura as the drummer. So it's the last album that would have the classic Laruku sound dominate throughout; later albums would have a very different style. True continues the trend set in the previous album of having a more upbeat and light sound, and luckily the music does not suffer because of this. Also, True is the album that starts to bring more orchestral and horn accompaniments into the music. Fare Well provides a solid opener as a steady tempo rock song, with some nice piano accompaniment. Caress of Venus is a pretty entertaining dance number that somehow manages to be more serious than playful; probably one of their more unique songs. The three singles on this album are all fantastic as well; flower is just beautiful in its simplicity, and it also got the most votes out of the 13 songs in the Clicked Singles compilation album. Lies and Truth is an upbeat rock song that uses string accompaniment and even a bit of horns without sounding overblown and pretentious, and Kaze ni kienaide is another fairly upbeat rock piece with an absolutely beautiful guitar passage. As for the other songs, "good-morning Hide" is a really well written song with some really amazing instrumentals, but Hyde's vocal performance on this isn't quite up to par with the other songs. the Fourth Avenue Cafe is a pretty entertaining fast paced rock song with horn accompaniment, and Dearest Love provides a very beautiful closing track on this great album. I don't really like Round and Round and I Wish much, but don't let that detract from your enjoyment of this otherwise fantastic record. |
