L'Arc~en~Ciel DUNE (1993) 1. Shutting
from the sky (5:34) |
DUNE is L'Arc~en~Ciel's debut album, done when they were still on an Indies label, so you can sorta tell that the production values aren't as high as on their other albums(though this definitely doesn't take away from the music). Everything put aside, DUNE is a solid offering from Laruku, certainly one hell of a debut, as it's really not surprising that they got picked up by a major label right after this. This is L'Arc~en~Ciel at their most raw, without all the production values, yet Hyde's vocals have never been so smooth(he would get a rougher edge to them later on in the band's career). Most of the songs here have a dreamy or mystical feel to it, and there are lots of great tunes as well, as this is a pretty consistent album. Shutting from the sky, Voice, and As if a dream are probably the best songs on the album, exhibiting the classic Laruku sound, there's the obligatory ballad(Ushinawareta Nagame), the low tempo one(Tsuioku no Jokei), and even a Mediterranean sounding song(Entichers). I'm actually not too fond of Floods of tears, the song that would eventually become the first Laruku single. I dunno why, it just seems really generic to me, and not really unique among all the other great L'Arc~en~Ciel pieces. Note that the download links on the left are for the 10th Anniversary Edition of this album, which includes remastered sound and three bonus tracks. |
