L'Arc~en~Ciel AWAKE (2005) 1. New World
(4:06) |
Following L'Arc~en~Ciel's unfortunately weak comeback album SMILE comes AWAKE, a much more consistent album that I would personally say is their best piece of work since True. Highlights include the opening track, New World, co-written by Yukihiro and Hyde, a very energetic and upbeat rock song with an awesome melody and one hell of an addictive chorus. LOST HEAVEN is another great song that would be used as the ending theme for the Fullmetal Alchemist movie, Conqueror of Shamballa. A slightly more moderate tempo piece compared to New World, it has great lyrics and you can really notice that Hyde's English is getting better. Jyojyoushi is another great, laidback piece with some great orchestral accompaniment, sorta reminiscent of their earlier style. Killing Me is another nice song that for some reason reminds me of something the brilliant green would write, but maybe that's just me. Fast-paced rock piece with some killer guitar in it. AS ONE is the heaviest song that Laruku has ever done, going into full blown heavy metal territory, with some political lyrics, followed by My Dear is the usual ballad on a Laruku album, with some very beautiful strings and vocals. Jiyuu eno shotai is a fan favorite(also one of my most favorite Laruku songs ever), and for good reason: it's very reminiscent of the old pre-Ark style. Ophelia is a very unique song, a relaxing piece with some nice Spanish guitar and piano accompaniment. And finally, Hoshizora is an awesome, depressing song that I honestly believe should have been the album closer, instead of the happy "twinkle, twinkle", which really feels out of place on this album as an ender. |
