brilliant green THE WINTER ALBUM (2002) 1. intro
-THE WINTER ALBUM- (1:04) |
the brilliant green return a year after with their final album(I'm writing this in 2006, so this might not be true). Despite the title of the album, only the first two tracks are winter themed, though that doesn't detract from the music in any way. The muddy sound mixing that was present in Los Angeles is gone as well, and buriguri has reverted back to their classic, jangle pop sound for this album. Highlight tracks include Holidays!, a great upbeat rock piece with an infectious melody. Flowers is easily the best ballad that the brilliant green have ever written, with a beautiful melody and even a string accompaniment. I'M SO SORRY BABY is a single that was reworked for this album(I can't tell the difference, though), easily the best hard rock piece that the band has done, and Forever to me is another single, one of the most depressing, but beautiful songs they've ever written. This album mix has slightly more synth in it. Rainy days never stays, bad english aside, is one of the band's most well known singles, and for good reason: it's the most outright bubblegum pop song that they've done in their career, and it also has one of Tommy's best vocal performances to date. Running so high is an interesting song that initially sounds like a depressing hip-hop song, but then shifts to a pop-rock sound at the chorus. And the album closes with Escape, a very pretty ballad that's just the perfect album ender. I don't really much care for the other songs that I haven't mentioned here, but they aren't bad, just stuff that's not really as unique as the songs mentioned. |
